I enthusiastically recommend David Plaut as Director of IT for your campaign. David was in charge of our IT and Tech Support on the Steve Poizner for Governor campaign in California in 2009 and 2010. David was quite simply excellent--available 24/7 and always on the job in an environment where you can't afford to be disconnected at all. David reported to me and Audrey Perry, our Deputy Campaign Manager, and was a first rate person and employee.
The best thing about David is that he is incredibly value-conscious, and realizes that money and time are a campaign's two most valuable resources. He easily saved us tens of thousands of dollars from our IT budget. He did this by working with vendors to get the best deals possible on servers, laptops, phones, and other equipment and services. He was very good at supporting the mobility of the campaign, in the sense of making it easy for us to have offices and employees at different spots throughout California and setting up our IT infrastructure so that we incurred expenses on a monthly service basis, rather than paying out large amounts of cash through huge upfront investments in IT infrastructure
He did such a good job that the Carly Fiorina for US Senate campaign hired him immediately after our campaign. Marty Wilson, who served as campaign manager for Carly, could testify to the great work he did for Carly’s campaign as they grew from a small primary campaign to a much larger general election organization.
